Origins of the Corner Labeled 10...

I have been in contact with a non-profit organization that I would like to assist through donations. They were rightfully concerned about if I was just using their organization to boost my sales because many businesses have done this in the past. With respect for those concerns, I responded with an email to explain my background and what Corner 10 stands for. After reading what I wrote, I thought it might be good to post it here on The Corner 10 Blog so anyone who is new to the site might gain a better understanding of Corner 10 Productions and The Corner 10 Blog.

My company name is Corner 10 Productions because of the neighborhood I grew up in. I was born and raised in Bakersfield, CA and I grew up on 10th Street. All my friends and I would meet on the corner of T Street and 10th Street to begin our neighborhood adventures built on our imaginations and creativity. Those childhood memories are still cherished and live on through my company. I connected those times with my business because I believe as a graphic and web designer that I must always be in touch with that childhood creativity. The name "Corner 10" is a constant reminder of where I came from, who I am now , and what I will be.

My long term goal with Corner 10 Productions is to return back to my old neighborhood and establish a neighborhood organization that offers creative programs ranging from teaching drawing classes to musical instrument training. I was raised to always give back when life is good to you. I know that goal is far is away, but I know it will happen one day. Until then, I am really motivated to lend support to organizations in my current community who represent the same goals I wish to one day achieve.

I hope this post gave you more insight into what I am trying to build with my company and this blog. With so much negativity to sample from and darkness to walk through in life, I hope my little blog can shine some light where needed and provide that spark of motivation and inspiration in your life.

I appreciate your visits and comments, so please let me know what's on your mind when you stop by. I will continue to post content like normal, but I am working on many new things for this blog in the up and coming months, so please be patient with me for now. Stay tuned!

I'm always looking up anything creative I can find while online to motivate myself and then share it here on The Corner 10 Blog to hopefully motivate you all that stop by.

I found this post on noupe.com that listed 40 website background designs that are definitely creative.

These designs are really cool and worth checking out if you are into looking at different styles of creative work or if you are a designer yourself looking to see what else is out there design wise. I already developed some new ideas in my head after looking at all the examples.

Song of the Day: Symphony 1 In the Barrel of a Gun by Emily Wells

Most of you who frequently take that stroll around the block to see what is going on the Corner 10 Blog know that I love Hip-hop culture and music. Most of my 'Song of the Day' posts consist of Hip-Hop songs. Hip-hop is a culture I grew up with and was a part of.

I still listen to a wide variety of music. I enjoy oldies, alternative, and I can even get down with some country music...yeah, I just wrote that. I also listen to classical music while working during the day and I go to sleep with it playing at night. The main point is, I am open to anything that is good and I don't limit myself when it comes to art and creativity.

When I heard this song titled "Symphony 1 In the Barrel of a Gun" by Emily Wells, I knew it would be a 'Song of the Day'. I don't even know how long it's been out, but I figured if I just heard it, then there are probably many others out there who don't know about this artist but would enjoy hearing this song.

So with that said...Enjoy.

Late Night Music Discoveries

Since it seems impossible for my body to allow me to go sleep before 2am, I try to find ways to be productive during the late nights. If not catching up on work, I usually find myself searching for music I haven't heard before. Last night I found two dope Hip-hop CDs that were new to me and definitely worth sharing.

This is just simply fresh Hip-hop with the spirit of the 90s thrown in.

Skyzoo - The Salvation
Dope beats and superb rhymes with deep content.

These CDs are very good and worth checking out if you are into Hip-hop. More of my picks coming soon.

Verbal Attack - A time lapse oil painting by Ladessa Sullivan

This is a new video of the artist, Ladessa Sullivan, creating a painting titled, "Verbal Attack". I have posted her time lapse painting videos on the Corner 10 Blog before and now I am back at it again.

Her artwork continues to elevate to greater levels of creativity and surrealism, my favorite art style, and the music she choose compliments the video nicely.

Song of the Day: Hands of Time by Groove Armada

I choose this song because it simply makes me feel good when I hear it. From the smooth rhythm to the lyrics that make me think about my time on this Earth and how I can't go backwards but only move forward, I just love this song..

It also makes me think about focusing on the beauty that exist in the world and using my time on this Earth to discover as much as I can, because focusing a lifetime on the negative aspects of life is a meaningless existence.

I was recently thinking about childhood friends that I grew up with in my hometown of Bakersfield and lost contact with. Some because of going away to different colleges, some because of jail or death, and some because they became foes.

I named by business 'Corner 10' because that street helped to mold me into who I am today...and so did the people who shared that street and neighborhood with me.

To all my old school friends that I lost touch with over the years simple due to the ways of life, this is dedicated to you...
